You may have heard of Darren Aronofsky’s proposed remaked of the classic 80′s sci-fi splattercop movie Robocop…but if you haven’t don’t worry. It looks like it might not be happening because the director doesn’t like 3D.
Movie Hole is reporting that MGM’s been caught up in the whole 3D craze and demanded that Aronofsky’s Robocop remake be done in 3D, but the project has been put on hold because the director’s refusing to film it that way. Now, it’s rare these days to hear of filmmakers preferring not to give in to studio demands for gimmicky films. It’s kind of refreshing. But, it really just makes us wish there was some way to re-release the original, blood-soaked Robocop in 3D.
After all, how horrifying would it be to see a giant Ronny Cox in your face?

That doesn’t sound that bad…
Oh, Ronny Cox.
Robocop is the shit.
I pray for this movie every night before i sleep
Good for Aronofsky. What Cameron did was great and I thoroughly enjoyed Avatar, but the artists (filmakers) and the studios see two different things. The studios see 3D as $$$ and nothing else, be it gimmicky or not. They could care less about story arc, quality of acting or cinematography. All they care about is the justification for higher ticket prices and they see 3D as a sort of rediscovered “black gold” of the big screen. They would insist that anything and everything that is considered “action” should be shot in 3D.
The directors and cinemetogrophers I would guess see it as a new tool, a medium that when applicable can add to a film. These studios that are dry humping all over the 3D flash in the pan are the same ones who would have pressured Cameron to make his film earlier (when the technology wasn’t advanced enough) to make even half of what Avatar is currently projected to make.
Money makes people short sighted as it’s ingrained in our nature to think of the now instead of the future.
Good for Lang. What Fleming did was great and I thoroughly enjoyed The Wizard of Oz, but the artists (filmakers) and the studios see two different things. The studios see colour as $$$ and nothing else, be it gimmicky or not. They could care less about story arc, quality of acting or cinematography. lame, don’t make it in 3D, that would be lame. ever watch nightmare on elm st. 3 in 2D? most of us have. there’s a reason 99.999% of films made today aren’t 3D…
