sandman_gaimanOpenly, I’ll admit that headline sounds strangely homoerotic, but stick with me folks, because I swear this story contains nothing but masculine subject matter from here on in: FOOTBALL CHEERLEADERS Kick-Ass director, Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Stardust), recently sat down with MTV’s Splash Page and revealed an interest in adapting Neil Gaiman’s spooky comic series The Sandman for television.

“I think it would make an amazing HBO series, you know, where you can just really create that world,” Vaughn told MTV News. “There’s too much to get into an hour and a half, two hours.”

“[Neil and I] talked about it,” the “Kick-Ass” director said. “I think as a movie it’s virtually impossible to make properly.”

At a pregnant 75 issues, it’s a smart move on Vaughn’s behalf, admitting that a feature version doesn’t seem plausible. Gaiman’s The Sandman launched in 1989 and has only picked up momentum since, so no doubt fanboys will be swinging pitchforks and torches if somebody f–ks this thing up. For the 99% of you still wondering “What the hell is The Sandman?”, you can read a summary straight from the author’s own website, here.

Unsettling, dark and thought provoking? Hmmm, sounds like the first time I kissed a girl (with her consent, thank you very much).

Special thanks to geekosystem for the tip.
