What are they looking at? Loki and Robin making out.*

A few months ago we reported Joss Whedon was on the short list of directors Marvel was considering to direct The Avengers.  We tried not to get our hopes up too much, but Joss Whedon can and should be put on the short list for anything.  Movies, TV shows, backrubs offered by yours truly, anything.

At Comic Con yesterday, while doing an awesome panel with J.J. Abrams (holy crap the line for that must have been huge), Whedon dropped this as-official-as-it’s-going-to-get announcement:

“It’s not an official thing, I think because Marvel couldn’t afford a press release. So can we make that an official thing? I’m directing ‘The Avengers.’” [Reuters]

Hell to the yes.  Whedon went on to say he’s still writing the outline.  Would it be wrong to expect The Avengers to now be filled with smoking hot ass-kicking chicks, as it should be?

* I already know Robin isn’t in The Avengers, but feel free to nitpick down in the comments section anyway. This is the way of the internet.
