As we all know, we’re in a recession, and the comics industry is hurting. Then again, it was hurting even when times were good. It’s always hurting. Really, with comics, if it’s not one thing, it’s another.
Anyway, both Marvel and DC announced that they were cutting prices by a buck, which means nothing to most people since they buy trades, but it’s nice they’re throwing a bone to the suckers who still bag and board each individual issue. Still, especially with rumors flying of Marvel reducing the number of comics hitting the stands, you’ve got to wonder if this is too little, too late.
As we’ve mentioned elsewhere, DC became a little more digested in the Time Warner colon by having its operations “integrated” more closely with Warner Brothers, and Marvel, of course, is now owned by the Mouse. These aren’t companies that give a crap about the piddling revenue comics bring in; they just want the characters for movies, TV shows, and ill-conceived stage shows. So this could be a prelude to printed comics being a rarity. On the bright side, we can afford a slightly better wine this month! Hello, Thunderbird!

What Do Cheaper Comic Books Mean For You?
Jewish superheroes?
*tallit spins, yarmulke flies off*
It’s worth noting that this is just undoing their earlier $1 price hike, except now a lot of these books will be 20 pages of story in 32 pages (12 pages of ads) instead of the previous 22 story pages in 32 total pages (10 pages of ads).
