Ron Howard Talks The Dark Tower
12.21.10
Ron Howard was interviewed by Geoff Boucher of the L.A. Times about the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, of which Howard plans to direct the first film and the first season of the TV series which will form a bridge to the second film. Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons) will be writing, and Brian “gives me nightmares” Grazer will produce.
The target release for the first movie is 2013. The television series would then follow and bridge to the second film. After the second movie the television series would pick up again and carry forward to the final film in the trilogy. A television series that functions as the mortar between cinematic brick? It’s an audacious plan but in a September statement [Akiva] Goldsman said grand-scale storytelling is needed for the grand-scale source material. [HeroComplex]
Ron Howard and interviewer Geoff Boucher discussed possible actors to cast as Roland. Boucher mentioned Daniel Craig, Hugh Jackman, and Jon Hamm and says Howard nodded at those names and added, “Sure, those are some names and on ‘The Dark Tower’ fansites they’re all about Viggo [Mortensen].” Oh my God. Does this mean Ron Howard has been reading some of my literally thousands of Viggo the Gunslinger erotic tales I’ve been posting on all The Dark Tower fansites? I knew it!

Great, so a movie would have Danny Craig or Hugh Jackman, while the TV show would have Skeet Ulrich or the guy from Ed. That’s gonna work out great.
You know they are going to get some Justin Beiber style a-hole to play Jake, and Oy is going to end up being a “hip-hop” skunk with backwards hat. He will also have a catch phrase. Roland will go over their plan on escaping the giant bear guardian and Oy will say “Roland maaan, that plan stinks.” and cross his arms b-boy style.
Chris Rock needs to voice the Oy skunk. That’s crackalackin’!
Burnsy, that could be good. The guy from Ed needs a new vehicle to star in. It’s been a couple years since his last failed one.
Clint Howard as a Slow Mutant or GTFO.
I want Hurley from Lost to play Stephen King. Then that will prove once and for all if King put himself in for his own glory or for the story.
