So I’m sitting here working on the blog with my iPod set to shuffle on the Hip Hop/Rap genre (not Hip-Hop/Rap, I guess that’s something else), when what sounds like a rock song about technology and wanting things now pops on. I had no idea what it was, so I walked over to discover it’s a song called “Now Generation” by The Black Eyed Peas from their most recent record The E.N.D. (yeah, I like the BEP, what’s it to you?). I hadn’t heard this song yet because this isn’t a very good record (too mellow for my tastes), but this song took me by surprise and not just because it sounds like an actual band is playing it.
I think it’s common knowledge by now that the Peas were just a trio of hip hop nerds before Fergie joined and they blew up. Well, apparently this song (sung by Fergie and Will i Am) is trying to get back to the geekery as is the live perfomance in the video above. You’ve got Fergie’s weird Regan-from-The Exorcist-spiderwalk posing and the giant Gort-like inflatable robots bearing the groups name in the video above. Here’s a few verses from the song:
