Don’t Miss Your Chance To Snag A Mondo Poster For ‘The Avengers’ Today

04.26.12 Written by RoboPanda

Alamo Drafthouse’s Mondo art boutique has teamed up with Marvel to produce a limited run of Mondo posters based on the Avengers. The Black Widow and Hawkeye posters were put up for sale last week and sold out within minutes. The 320 minimalist Black Widow posters included the kickass tagline, “From Russia with Gun”. The Hawkeye edition was limited to 220 copies.

We all may have missed out on those two, but the rest are going on sale today and tomorrow. Updates will be posted on @MondoNews and the posters sell on a first come, first serve basis. Each poster is 24″ by 36″, and most of them cost $45.

Going on sale today are 340 Captain America prints and 320 Hulk prints. Tomorrow we’ve got a crack at 395 Thor prints and 120 glow-in-the-dark variant Thor prints ($75). Also on sale tomorrow are 345 Iron Man prints (partially pictured above) and 120 prints of a $75 variant version in a brown color scheme. I desperately want a black light poster of a very sassy Loki. Mondo, make it happen.

All the posters and artist credits start on the next page. Click images to enlarge.

Designer of Jar-Jar Binks Redeems Herself With The Dino Avengers

04.19.12 Written by Nathan Birch

Superheroes are awesome, dinosaurs are awesome and yet there’s a disappointing lack of superhero dinosaurs out there. Well, except Devil Dinosaur. Oh, Devil Dinosaur. Anyways, why am I going on about superheroes and dinosaurs? Because dinosaurs in Avengers costumes, that’s why!

Professional creature designer Terryl Whitlatch, the lady who created everyone’s favorite space Jamaican Jar-Jar Binks, decided, just for the heck of it, to do a bunch of pictures of dinosaurs dressed up as the Avengers, and they’re pretty great. No really. Don’t hold the Jar-Jar thing against her. You can check out Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America and Thor in dino form after the jump…

30 Geeky Easter Eggs Too Good To Hide

04.06.12 Written by RoboPanda

[via]

Today is Good Friday and Sunday is Easter, which gives us a perfect excuse to post a bunch of pictures of geeky Easter eggs instead of writing a wall of text, not to mention we can use all that time normally spent typing to instead eat solid chocolate bunnies* until we’re sugar comatose.

* Hollow chocolate bunnies are OF THE DEVIL. Get thee behind me, deceptive Cadbury temptress.

8 Geeky Pulp Novel Covers By Tony Fleecs

04.03.12 Written by RoboPanda

Tony Fleecs is a writer and artist whose work (including In My Lifetime) has been published in by Random House, Image Comics, IDW, Boom! Studios, and more. He also posted this series of geeky vintage-style pulp novel covers on his Deviantart page and has a couple unrelated prints for sale. Hopefully he’ll add prints of these pulp covers soon because they are awesome. I love the attention to detail and retro fidelity to the sensationalism and color schemes and design style of the time.

Click onward for all of these salacious superhero stories if you can stomach the scandalous vixens Fleecs has sketched.

At Least One Thing About Hollywood’s Akira Remake Was Good — Beautiful Akira Storyboards Uncovered

03.26.12 Written by Nathan Birch

So, Hollywood’s remake of Akira is on hiatus, and well, it’s probably best for everyone if it just stays there. That said, while an all-white-person Akira is a pretty terrible idea, it’s not like there weren’t some talented people working on the project — people like Sylvain Despretz, a concept and storyboard artist that has worked on Gladiator, Tron: Legacy and entries in the Terminator and Alien series.

Despretz’s Akira storyboards are beautiful, and aside from all the characters having blonde hair, look fairly faithful in tone and style to the original manga and anime. You can check them out for yourself after the jump…
