At C2E2 last weekend, Val Kilmer participated in a panel where he discussed several of his projects. A full run-down is at Spinoff, but we’re going to focus on just the most important cinematic masterpiece of our time™, which you already know is none other than Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever. Yes, it’s been 17 years since Val Kilmer was lowered into the Batsuit, but any time he talks about being Batman, by God we’re going to cover that.

He talked about falling over constantly in the Batsuit:

“The suit takes an hour to get into, and you can’t do it by yourself, and then you can’t hear because there are really no earholes in it. Also you can’t turn your head and you can’t go to the bathroom by yourself. Plus, you fall over quite easily. It was like wearing a wetsuit that was several times tighter than one anyone else would wear, and then when you add the cape it’s almost psychedelic. Then I realized one day what wearing that suit was like. It was, ‘Oh! This is what being old feels like,’” the actor joked. “No one really listens to you any more. You can’t really talk or hear. You’re always falling over and someone has to help you go to the bathroom and get dressed.”

If old people were anything like Batman their children might call them more often. Just sayin’.

Kilmer also expressed love for Nolan’s Batman films and reminisced about where Batman Forever went wrong:

Kye is a 7-year-old boy from Arlington, Texas, who has a dream of starring in a Batman movie as — who else? — the Batman. His dream came true thanks to the Arlington Police Department and the charity A Wish With Wings, who set up Kye’s Batman filmmaking adventure last Saturday, and you can see some of the footage and pictures below.

Kye’s surprise adventure included apprehending The Joker during an attempted bank robbery. He also stopped a purse-snatcher outside the Arlington police station and foiled a “car bomb” set by the Riddler near City Hall [...]. At the end of the day, Arlington Assistant Chief James Hawthorne presented Kye with a key to the city and other gifts. [Star Telegram via BioTV]

During the ceremony at city hall, he told the crowd he was having fun and, although he has cancer (leukemia), he’s “doing good”. You’re doing good in more way than one, little buddy.

Hey folks, in just a little over three months Dark Knight Rises will finally hit theaters! Three months! Batman! I don’t know about you, but I plan to wiggle excitedly in my seat like a four-year-old non-stop until July 20th.

It’s time once again for our Friday comic book cosplay feature, casting the spotlight on the best comics related costumery from the cosplay community.  We’re focusing on those cosplayers who we think deserve special recognition for coming up with the best costumes, whatever the budget, and the photographers who capture them for posterity.

Gamma Squad is committed to giving a voice to the cosplay community that thrives in groups like our friends at TheSuperheroCostumingForum.com. Each week we spotlight our favorite costumes and each month we host a cosplay contest. The audio clips after the break (NSFW for swearing) are fake outtakes from the set of The Dark Knight Rises. The Morgan Freeman impression isn’t quite resonant enough (but the cadence is spot-on), and that Christian Bale impersonation is fantastic. The writing is great as well. For example, when “Freeman” reveals he hasn’t watched the first two Batman movies, “Bale” suggests he rents them immediately, to which Freeman responds, “I’ll tell you that I will, but I just know that I won’t. I won’t watch them, because I’ll Netflix them. They’ll come. I’ll put them on my DVD stand, right there next to Seven Years In Tibet. Netflix is basically just a glorified coaster company.”

And who can resist listening to a Freeman impersonator interrupt a Bale tantrum to ask, “Could somebody go to craft services and get me those hundred cal packs of Ritz?” These clips were made by the voice actors behind Comedy Central’s Ugly Americans to promote their Batman-themed episode “The Dork Knight” airing after South Park on April 18th. They’ve got my attention.

Seriously, the people whining on YouTube about this being fake instead of sitting back and enjoying the good writing and passable impressions are the same type of people who complain about puppies having bad breath, or who decided a video game company is worse than a bank who committed foreclosure fraud to kick people out of their homes. I want to dress up like the Hamburglar and hit them with a baguette while singing “X Gon’ Give It To Ya”, because they’re so literal-minded that would probably confuse and haunt them for life.
