It’s Right Behind You!

During a broadcast of the BBC’s “Stargazing Live”, astronomer Mark Thompson complained about the poor visibility and lack of apparent meteors during the meteor shower.  Shortly before saying, “Not much to be seen at the moment” a meteor could be spotted over his right shoulder (six seconds into the video below).

Host duo Dara O’Briain and Brian Cox revisited the gaffe later on in the show  when viewers had emailed and tweeted in to tell show producers what they had missed. O’Briain confirmed the shooting star was in fact a meteor from the Quadrantid meteor shower. He then crossed back over to an embarrassed Mr Thompson, who admitted his blunder. He said: ‘I must admit I was oblivious to it, I think I’m probably the only person in the entire country who didn’t see it.’ [DailyMail]

If co-host Dara O’Brien looks familiar, it might be because we’ve written about his video game stand up comedy bit.  If the Corgi at the right looks familiar, it might be because it’s Corgi Friday and you should be looking at Corgis. Look out, Corgi, it’s right behind you!

And what could be more surprising than the First Batallion Transvestite Brigade? Airborne Wing.

QuietEarth found three clips viewable outside England for BBC’s upcoming miniseries airing on the 28th of this month, a remake of ”Day of the Triffids”.  Here’s the synopsis:

The world is struck blind by a solar storm, and millions of man-eating mobile plants are released to roam Britain.  As an expert on the Triffids, Bill Masen knows that salvation rests in the hands of the father he hates, who mutated the Triffids in the first place to produce a green source of oil that the world craves.

It stars stars Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard, and Jason Priestley.  You can put Scott, Izzard, and Cox into anything and I’ll watch it.  Especially Cox.  Watching Cox is my favorite thing.  I could watch Cox all day.  Yep.  Can’t get enough.  Of that.
