Pull List: Comics Coming Out 4/4/2012

04.04.12 Written by Dan Seitz

This week brings some new beginnings…and DC putting a bullet in a whole bunch of comics.

  • For DC, this week marks the last issue of “Men of War”, “Hawk and Dove”, and “Static Shock”. We think cancelling “Static Shock” because of backstage drama is a mistake, and “Men of War” was a solid book that we wish had found an audience. Oh well, since this is DC, bring on the Batbooks!
  • “Avengers Vs. X-Men” starts in earnest this week. By the way, if you want to see the actual fights in detail, you’ll need to pick up an entirely separate series. We’re sure that will go down well with fans.
  • Also, Hulk #50 hits and the last “Fear Itself” book finally wraps up this week.
  • Image debuts “Danger Club”, and “Fatale” and “Hell Yeah” have new issues out this week.
  • Dark Horse has a whole bunch of Mass Effect collectibles and “Creepy” #8, which features among others Kelly Jones and Doug Moench.
  • IDW’s “Infestation” continues with a “30 Days of Night” crossover.
  • Dynamite has “Voltron: Year One” and another “John Carter of Mars” off-brand book: nice to see that lawsuit from the Burroughs estate didn’t slow them down any.
  • And finally, BOOM! rolls out “Fanboys Vs. Zombies”, which is probably about as good as it sounds.

As always, let us know what you’re picking up in the comments.

Pull List: Comics Released 3/28/12

What do publishers have coming out for us today?

  • DC is starting “The New Deadwardians” and has another damn “decimal” book for “Unwritten”. That crap really needs to stop.
  • Marvel is putting out a whole bunch of Marvel Masterworks, and also the “zero” issue of Avengers Vs. X-Men. We hope it’s as fun as “Cable Beats Up The Avengers”. There’s also the penultimate issue of “The Twelve” finally coming out.
  • Image has more “Bulletproof Coffin” and “Elephantmen”, which almost makes up for them publishing the second issue of “Alpha Girl”. Almost.
  • Dark Horse starts “The Pickens County Horror” two-issue series. Hooray redneck vampires!
  • IDW has “The Art of George Perez”, which I’ve seen and is absolutely gorgeous, worth every penny of that $80 they want.
  • Finally, there seems to be some confusion over Dynamite’s “Dark Shadows, Volume One”. Diamond is saying it’s available now and costs four bucks, and Dynamite’s website says it’s available in April and costs $17. We’re assuming either Diamond screwed up, or that Dynamite is offering something else “Dark Shadows” related.

As always, the full list under the cut, and let us know what you’re buying today in the comments.

Pull List: Comics Released 3/21/12

And what do the publishers have for us this week?

  • DC wraps up DC Universe Online Legends this week, hardly a surprise considering the popularity, or lack thereof, of the MMO it’s based on.
  • Marvel debuts a new John Carter miniseries, and also fires up “Supercrooks”, which actually asks an honest question: why don’t supervillains attack places that don’t have superheroes to steal their stuff? And since Millar seems to have toned down his usual shock jock crap, this one might be enjoyable before it gets turned into a movie.
  • Image starts up “Hoax Hunters” with a zero issue and “Rebel Blood”…yet another damn zombie miniseries.
  • Dark Horse starts “Ragemoor” and continues “The Long Death”, which you really need to be reading.
  • And IDW starts a new miniseries of “Rocketeer Adventures” and the new miniseries “Smoke and Mirrors”, along with continuing the so far fairly interesting Stephen King/Joe Hill horror miniseries “Road Rage”.

As always, let us know what you’re buying in the comments.

Pull List: Comics Released 3/14/2012

What’s in the pipe this week for comics fans of all stripes?

  • DC is finishing up “The Ray”, which is actually a fun reboot of the B-lister, and starting up “Saucer Country”, basically “The X-Files” with Paul Cornell writing it, so it’s probably worth a look.
  • Marvel fires up “Avengers Assemble” and finally puts “X-23″ to sleep, along with all the other Wolvie knockoffs.
  • Image fires up “Saga”, which you might remember had a tiny controversy surrounding the breastfeeding on the cover.
  • Dark Horse has the followup to the Buffy abortion issue, where we see whether or not this plotline has genuine legs or really was the cheap ploy for attention that it came off as (more on this after we read the issue) and a whole heck of a lot of “Game of Thrones” merch hitting stores.
  • And IDW has a Star Trek 100=Page Spectacular that we’re looking forward to, since the “Star Trek” ongoing is easily one of their strongest books.

As always, let us know what you’re getting at the FLCS in the comments.

Pull List: Comics Released 3/7/2012

After a pretty quiet Leap Day, the publishers come roaring back with quite a lot of stuff. Here’s what stands out this week:

  • DC has “Fairest” firing up, focusing on the women of the “Fables” universe. They’re also firing up “Night Force” with Marv Wolfman writing and Tim Mandrake on the art, so we’ll be getting that just because Tim Mandrake should illustrate ALL the horror comics.
  • Marvel wraps up “Children’s Crusade”, and starts up another “Age of Apocalypse” book, not to mention a “Toy Story” miniseries.
  • Image has two interesting new books starting: “Hell Yeah”, which basically uses the plot of the awful Jet Li movie “The One” for good; and “The Manhattan Projects”, which seems to be about what would happen if DARPA got its hands on the Manhattan Project first.
  • And Dark Horse continues its archiving project with “The Occult Files of Doctor Spektor”, a fun Gold Key book.

As always, let us know what you’re getting in the comments, and the full list of what’s hitting shelves is under the jump.

Pull List: Comics Released 2/29/12

02.29.12 Written by Dan Seitz

It’s an off week here in comics, but at least another superhero book has managed to cross 100 issues. Let’s focus on that.

  • The book in question is “The Darkness”, which hits #100 today.
  • DC has more “Scalped”, and “Batman Beyond Unlimited”; the New 52 is taking a bye week, apparently.
  • Marvel has more “Fear Itself” hardcovers coming out, but also at least has more of “The Twelve” and a hardcover collection of Greg Rucka’s Punisher.
  • Image has more “Hack/Slash” out this week; also worth picking up, if you haven’t already, is “Pigs”.
  • Dark Horse has the first volume of “Empowered” out.
  • IDW wraps up Joe Hill’s superb “The Cape” and offers up a “G.I. Joe” annual, which includes material from Larry Hama.
  • And Dynamite’s legally questionable adaptation of “Tarzan”, “Lord of the Jungle”, gets a second issue.

As always, the complete release list is under the cut, and let us know what you’re picking up from the FLCS this week in the comments.
