A Compendium of Cool Comics Cosplay: December 9th

12.09.11 Written by Angelophile

Welcome to Gamma Squad’s regular Friday comic book cosplay feature, spotlighting the best superhero (and villain) related costuming from the cosplay community.  We’re casting the spotlight onto those cosplayers who we think deserve special recognition for coming up with the best costumes, whatever the budget, and the photographers who capture them for posterity.

Gamma Squad is committed to giving a voice to the cosplay community that thrives in groups like TheSuperheroCostumingForum.com. Each week we spotlight our favorite costumes and each month we host a cosplay contest. We’ll be picking a theme for each month and inviting cosplayers, costumers and photographers to submit related pictures of their work to our Flickr group to be considered. We’ll then pick our top choices and post them on Gamma Squad for the adoration of all.

The theme for the upcoming month is:

  • Spider-man and Friends

But in the meantime, let’s continue with this week’s selection.

    Real-Life Deadpool Is…Kinda Lame?

    06.01.11 Written by Dan Seitz

Not that we were expecting one of our fellow nerds in spandex to wander around kicking ass, because that usually gets you arrested, even if you’re dressed as Batman, but still, you dress up as Deadpool and DON’T wander around with katanas? And you call yourself a nerd, sir?

In all seriousness, this anonymous Deadpool in Wenatachee, WA, at least has his priorities straight: he’s just trying to help out, not make the cops arrest him, unlike some other would-be real-life superheroes we could name. If he sees a crime, he’ll just do a citizen’s arrest if possible and observe what’s going on if not. Although bursting through windows wielding swords is awesome in comics, he’s right; in the real world it’s incredibly stupid and likely to get you shot. Also, to his credit, the flyer he’s putting up is pretty funny, so at least he’s spreading good cheer:
