Lightning Bolt! Lightning Bolt! ‘Knights of Badassdom’ Trailer

07.25.11 Written by RoboPanda

That van looks legit.

Uproxx motivational speaker Peter Dinklage is packin’ an ounce of killer shrooms and there be monsters in need of pummeling.  I’m referring, of course, to our plans for next weekend the first trailer for Knights of Badassdom directed by Joe Lynch.  It stars Peter Dinklage, Summer Glau, Steve Zahn, Ryan Kwanten, Margarita Levieva, Jimmi Simpson, Danny Pudi, and a bunch of other people who look vaguely familiar.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In this humorous fantasy adventure from IndieVest Pictures, Joe (Ryan Kwanten) is a heavy metal rocker who’s just gone through a painful breakup with his girlfriend, Beth (Margarita Levieva). His concerned roommates (Steve Zahn, Peter Dinklage) kidnap him to their LARP (Live Action Role Playing) gathering, where he enters a realm of fantasy escapism in which pretend knights, elves, and barbarians clash with foam weaponry on a mock battlefield. When Joe’s “sorcerer” roommate (Zahn) inadvertently summons a deadly succubus that takes Beth’s seductive form, bloody reality crashes down upon their fantasy world. Once LARPers start to turn up dead, the make-believe wizards and warriors must become the real life heroes they have been pretending to be in order to conquer the evil that has been unleashed.

Confession time: I’ve LARP’d before.  I LARP’d so hard you guys.  Maybe I’d have continued LARPing if the other people there looked anything like Ryan Kwanten and Summer Glau instead of looking/smelling like Jabba the Hut in a sweat-discolored trenchcoat.  Is it considered bad form to spray Febreze at people while casting, “Magic Missile”?  Because they seemed angry about that.

Anyway, here’s the trailer:

Could I interest you in “touching the magic”?  No charge.

In what Kotaku is calling “one of the most successful MMO turnarounds in the history of the genre”, Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited (DDO Unlimited) has doubled its number of paid subscribers and increased its store revenue 500% since last September.  How?  Whores with jetpacks Free stuff.  Turbine relaunched the MMORPG six months ago as a free game with an optional paid subscription.  Since then, over a million new players have signed up, some of them buying subscriptions and making purchases in the DDO store.

Yeah, the first one’s always free, but they get you on the comeback.  By the way, here’s a video of Slave Leia and Lara Croft having a snowball fight.  The first video is free:

MEXICAN LARPING GAME SHOW

02.05.10 Written by RoboPanda

asgaard

Looks like your girlfriend had quadruplets.

The clip below is from the Mexican TV show “Asgaard”.  ToplessRobot has the awesome trailer as well.  Contestants live-action role play their way through an insanely complicated set, winning real ounces of silver as prizes.  They have enemy characters trying to set them back and allies to help them.  It’s like a pile of Dragon back issues exploded all over this set and the contestants, and all they got were some silver pieces.  Seems like a lot of work for something worth $15 an ounce.  How many pimp cups full of mead can you get for that these days?
