A Compendium of Cool Comics Cosplay: January 27th

01.27.12 Written by Angelophile

It’s time once again for our Friday comic book cosplay feature, spotlighting the best superhero (and villain) related costuming from the cosplay community.  We’re casting the spotlight onto those cosplayers who we think deserve special recognition for coming up with the best costumes, whatever the budget, and the photographers who capture them for posterity.

Gamma Squad is committed to giving a voice to the cosplay community that thrives in groups like our friends at TheSuperheroCostumingForum.com. Each week we spotlight our favorite costumes and each month we host a cosplay contest. We’ll be picking a theme for each month and inviting cosplayers, costumers and photographers to submit related pictures of their work to our Flickr group to be considered. We’ll then pick our top choices and post them on Gamma Squad for the adoration of all.

The theme for the upcoming month is:

  • Super Villains and Diabolical Foes

For now, enjoy this week’s selection!

Now You Can Smell Like An Avenger, Just Not Hawkeye Or Black Widow

01.24.12 Written by RoboPanda

A company named JADS International is releasing a line of Avengers-themed colognes with Marvel’s approval. These will likely be available in April with a suggested price of $40 for the Nick Fury and Loki ones and $60 for the rest. Pictures of the colognes and their ad copy are below.

JADS seems to be assuming that Hawkeye and Black Widow aren’t a major draw, not even warranting a fragrance while Nick Fury (another lacking superpowers) has one. I can understand that with Hawkeye — the dude just shoots arrows? — but not with Black Widow. They are underestimating the market share for “people who want to spray the scent of Scarlett Johansson on everything they love,” and by “love” I mean love. Like couch cushions or slutty ottomans.

Loki and Captain America Fight, High Five, and Ham It Up On The Avengers’ Set

08.26.11 Written by RoboPanda

Filming continues on the Cleveland set of The Avengers, now at the Public Square in Cleveland which is set up to look like Stuttgart, Germany. The videos below show a fight scene between Captain America and Loki being filmed after dark, not to be confused with “Captain America and Loki After Dark”, a very sexy documentary from our private collection.

Check after the jump for those set videos, plus a video of Loki hamming it up and another captioned photo to go with our photoshop collection.

[Hat tip and one shout of "wooooo" to joshw24 and debbiedowner. More videos available at those links.]

The Avengers Dance Party Continues, Now With More Loki

08.24.11 Written by RoboPanda

We spotted the .gif above after we posted our photoshop collection, so it’ll just have to stand on its own here. We’ve also got more set photos from the Cleveland set of The Avengers (previous gallery here). The crew has set up the Public Square in Cleveland to double as Stuttgart, Germany. We have pictures and videos of the “Schloßplatztheater” building (which is also the name of a theater in Berlin, not Stuttgart, but whatever).

And now here are some spoilers. Loki kills someone at this location, and extras can be seen fleeing his attack in the first video below. Also, check out the staff he’s holding. It looks like the blue Infinity Gem, the same one which was on the Infinity Gauntlet in Thor and would be useful in setting up a Thanos appearance near the end or in the sequel. The blue gem (AKA Mind Gem) — if that’s what Loki has there — would allow him to amplify his mental power and access other people’s minds and dreams. Hawkeye’s going to have some explaining to do regarding those sexy dreams he had about Tony Stark. What, you hadn’t heard that story line before? It’s all available in excruciating detail on my fan fiction website Sex Slings And Arrows. Unfortunately, most of my visitors seem to be confused students trying to do book reports on Hamlet.
