Today we have a Mexican TV spot from the fall of 2004 in which classic versions of Batgirl, Catwoman, and Wonder Woman (all played by Argentinian models) get dressed in preparation for crime-fighting. The spot was advertising the El Palacio de Hierro chain of clothing stores.
The tagline at the end translates to “Women have always known that a change of clothes makes us powerful,” and presumably indicates that they’re running their annual Fall clearance sale on this year’s line of capes and domino masks. [ComicsAlliance]
Superwomen be shoppin’.
Seriously though, seeing Pamela David as Wonder Woman makes me wish Hollywood could get their sh-t together enough to develop a good Wonder Woman adaptation.
Last Friday, IGN premiered the exclusive first trailer (above) for director Gareth Edwards’ extraterrestrial thriller/drama Monsters. We here at Gamma Squad were a little too busy at the local tequila bar to post it and that is why I’m brining it to you now. Shot on an astonishing $400,000 budget, FirstShowing.net can’t shut up about how much they want to rub wieners with it, after watching it screen at Cannes. All for good reason, I suspect.
Oh won’t you woo us, official website:
Six years ago previously, a NASA probe returning to earth with samples of an alien life form, crashed over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear, and half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain “the creatures”… The story begins when a US journalist agrees to escort a shaken American tourist through the infected zone in Mexico to the safety of the US border. I can think of much scarier scenarios going down in Mexico than just extraterrestrials, but nevertheless this movie has me intrigued. The trailer smells slightly reminiscent of District 9, but still it all seems approached from a relatively original angle. Below I’ve posted a bit more information regarding Monsters story, but be aware that it’s a bit of a spoiler depending on how much you’ve already invested at this point. Then again, you know, we could just hang around this thread all day…just gazing at each other.
The clip below is from the Mexican TV show “Asgaard”. ToplessRobot has the awesome trailer as well. Contestants live-action role play their way through an insanely complicated set, winning real ounces of silver as prizes. They have enemy characters trying to set them back and allies to help them. It’s like a pile of Dragon back issues exploded all over this set and the contestants, and all they got were some silver pieces. Seems like a lot of work for something worth $15 an ounce. How many pimp cups full of mead can you get for that these days?
