Dinosaurs Are Real, and the Nazis Have Them

12.06.10 Written by RoboPanda

Last year we posted a trailer for the awesome Half Life 2 mod, “Dino D-Day”, in which you play an Allied soldier fighting against dinosaurs resurrected and trained by Nazis. 100% historically accurate. Now here’s the fantastic news: there’s going to be a full, multi-player Dino D-Day game, releasing March 1st, 2011 (trailer below).  Not only can you punch dinos in the face as in the Half Life 2 mod, but you can also play as a dinosaur, including a Desmatosuchus with a 20mm cannon strapped to its back. As you do.

Punch my dinosaur in the face with an official synopsis, dinodday:

The Allied side includes six playable characters each with unique weapons and abilities to use in combat. Gun down a Dilophosaur with your trusty M1 Garand, blast a kamikaze pterosaur out of the sky with your Thompson sub-machine gun, toss out a dead jack rabbit to lure a raptor into a trap. As an Axis player you will have your choice of three human classes and three dinosaur classes. Ambush your enemy with speed and stealth as the Raptor, mercilessly pound the enemy with the Desmatosuchus’ heavy 20mm gun, rampage through enemy groups as the Dilophosaur, pick up a body and throw it at an enemy for a double kill! The German soldier classes are the perfect complement to their dinosaur comrades.
You’ve played World War II games before…but have you played a World War II game with dinosaurs?

More important question: have you ever played a World War II game with dinosaurs on weed?  Find the answer to this and other similar questions in my new book, The Bigass Book of Movie References From 1998.

Space Nazi Movie Begins Filming. Really.

12.02.10 Written by RoboPanda

We hate mooninite Nazis, but we love reporting news about mooninite Nazi flick Iron Sky, which has started filming in Frankfurt, Germany. After four weeks of shooting in Germany, Finnish director Timo Vuorensola will move the crew to Australia, a fitting stand-in for the desolate moonscape as long as they CGI out all the kangaroos wearing sunglasses (they’re everywhere down there).  When last we wrote about the film, they were raising money with a YouTube campaign.  They raised 15% of their $8.5 million budget from 52 internet donors, and their fundraising activity continues:

In keeping with their DIY roots, the filmmakers launched a campaign to get their picture into theaters through the online Demand to See Iron Sky campaign. Producers also invite potential fans to pay what they want, starting at 1 euro (about $1.50) to grab a sneak peek of the film’s first five minutes. [Wired]

$1.50 for five minutes?  It better tell me what it’s wearing.

Set photos and video from the first day of shooting after the jump:

Stanley Tucci Is Cap’s Doc

06.08.10 Written by Jon

Stanley Tucci has been cast as Dr. Abraham Erskine in Captain America: The First Avenger, and if you’d don’t recognize the name, he’s the doc that came up with the Super Soldier Serum that turns scrawny wimp Steve Rogers into patriotic muscleman Captain America. Then he got gunned down by Nazis so he couldn’t make anymore caps.

There’s no word on whether he’ll make through the movie version, but we’re betting he doesn’t make it to The Avengers. (And I’m refusing to put a spoiler alert on this info, simply because the character died almost seventy years ago! Although, he was called “Dr. Josef Reinstein” in the original comic.)

Tucci is an interesting choice because he’s almost exclusively known for playing A-holes. In fact, a quick and probably inaccurate accounting of all of Tucci’s roles show that a a full 95 percent of his characters are complete douchebags.

Could they be setting him up as a Dr. Erskine that we don’t mind being riddled with german bullets?

Footage From “Nazis in Space”

Well, okay, it isn’t actually called “Nazis in Space” (it’s not a SyFy Original after all).  We’ve previously posted a teaser and photos for Iron Sky, the Finnish movie about Nazis who fled to the moon in 1945 (like ya do), and later send back Julia Dietze to plan the 2018 Mooninite Nazi invasion.  I hate Mooninite Nazis.

ironsky_posterThe first footage is below.  Once again, they’ve picked an awesome song for their video (“B Machina” by Laibach).  The only complaint I have is that they ask for money at the end.  You telling me a movie about space Nazis can’t get enough funding but a movie based on the Candyland board game is in development at Universal Pictures?  Universal, I am disappoint.  Maybe the Finns making Iron Sky should start telling Hollywood it’s based on a smash hit European board game and a comic book.  Then they’ll have more millions than my great uncle Randolph from Argentina has suspicious facial scars.

SPACE NAZI MOVIE IS REALLY HAPPENING

03.26.10 Written by RoboPanda

Finnish movie Iron Sky is out of development hell and has started test shooting (photos below).  Ach mein Gott, they’re really making it.  In 1945, the Nazis invent advanced anti-gravity technology (a cat with buttered toast on its back, I’ll bet).  They use the tech to flee to the dark side of the moon and hide out.  In 2018, they send Julia Dietze back to scout out Earth in preparation for the Mooninite Nazi invasion. io9 is reporting it will be a comedy.  Way to F my sunshine, io9.  I thought it was a documentary.  Now what am I going to do with all the HIT cookies and David Hasselhoff albums I stockpiled to bribe the space Nazis with?

DIESEL PUNK SHORT FILM WITH GIANT NAZI ROBOTS

02.26.10 Written by RoboPanda

1945A

“1945A” is a short film about an alternative 1945.  One in which the Nazis build giant robots with an arsenal of futuristic weaponry.  Ryan Nagata and friends dug a trench in his grandma’s backyard and made this film on a budget of only $2000.  He built the models himself, and the same uniforms were used by different actors in different scenes.

He says the film is “meant to serve as a presentation for a feature film. Should some studio or financier take interest”.  Well, that Nazi tank does kind of look like a giant spider.  Add four more legs to it, and Jon Peters will be very interested.
