Gundog Saves Christmas, Should Team Up With RoboCop

12.23.11 Written by RoboPanda

39 Degrees North‘s GUNDOG is a short film in the vein of ’80s action movies like RoboCop, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, and Die Harder, except there’s a police dog who’s been rebuilt with a gun on his head. Which is exactly what all those movies were missing. The short is written and directed by Ben Foster — who also plays the obligatory German villain trying to destroy Christmas — and stars James Oliver as Kowolski and Zai Zai as GUNDOG. I lost count of how many action movie tropes they parodied right around the time the dog started hitting the sauce. He can’t help it. He just misses Lisa so much. You’re tearing him apart, Lisa!

Yeah, I could be covering some serious news right now, but come on. There’s a GUNDOG, and he saves Christmas. Look into your hearts. You know I made the right choice.

Corridor Digital Shocks With A Battlefield 3 Fan Film

11.02.11 Written by RoboPanda

PROTIP: Always bring a defibrillator to an engulfed-in-flames knife fight.

We’ve featured the work of Sam Gorski and Nick Pueringer of Corridor Digital here before; they made awesome fan films based on Call of Duty and Team Fortress 2 and dipped into sci-fi with Prism. Their specialty is making amusing, sometimes-surreal, special-effects-heavy short films with a small budget, and they continue that tradition with “Shock Troopers”, a short based on Battlefield 3 which explains why the assault class has defibrillators.

As usual, the production value on this is surprisingly high compared to what they had to work with, although everything after 2:45 might have you screaming, “GAHHH, JUST PICK UP THEIR WEAPONS.” Or maybe that was just me? I also yelled at 3:45, “Not clear, dumbass!” Yes, I often shout at YouTube videos for not being 100% scientifically accurate. I’m a busy guy.

This Duck Hunt Movie Will Replace The Whale In My Nightmares

10.26.11 Written by RoboPanda

G4 has launched their Epictober Film Festival with The Hunt, a short film based on Nintendo’s Duck Hunt, the only game which succeeded in making me hate a dog. The short is directed by Sam Balcomb of Rainfall Films, who sets things up right by using the theme music from classic safety video “Shake Hands With Danger“, so you know you’re in for something special.

The video is probably NSFW due to violence and swearing, so be sure to scroll down far enough on the age verification to be over 18. Might I suggest you join our club of 111-year-old New Year’s babies? We’re very exclusive. Only every single internet user is allowed to join.

Who Voltron’d It Better?

10.13.11 Written by RoboPanda

We haven’t heard much lately about the Voltron movie in development, although the last time we wrote about it we were introduced to our new favorite producer name: Dick Suckle. We also said back then that we’d totally watch it if they cast the girl to the right as Voltron. Or just use four real cats taped to a fifth cat.

We still don’t have our video of four cats taped to a fifth cat (get with the times, Hollywood!), but we do have two new, very tonally-different Voltron fan films released this week. The first, by AwkwardSpaceship, is a comedy sketch which points out all the stuff about the 80s cartoon that annoyed us as kids. The second, Voltron: The End by Alex Albrecht, is a serious take on the subject, with Timothy Omundsen (Jericho, Psych) playing Lance, the pilot of the Red Lion.

So who Voltron’d it better? The kid in the banner picture, of course, but here are the two fan films anyway:

Can You Handle The Epicness Of “Space Battles: Space War II”?

09.27.11 Written by RoboPanda

THE ANSWER IS “NO”.

Lens flares! Alien babes! Paternal disappointment! No volleyball scene! Seventh grade style bullying among grownass adults! More lens flares! Ballet! Push it to the limit! That’s our summary of “Space Battles: Space War II”, made by Brad Clapper and Craig Pentak for the September Channel 101 screening. It took sixth place there and first place in our hearts. It was six votes short of airing in primetime, but it lives on in the video below.

Blow my space mind with an official space synopsis, You(space)Tube:

After 30 years of peace in the universe Chase Spacegazer and the rest of the Space Army are attacked by their mortal enemy…SPACE PIRATES! [pentak4]

This is the best damn space flying I’ve ever space seen.
