Humpday Mashup Dump

04.25.12 Written by RoboPanda

Good afternoon you princes of Maine, you kings of New England, you stalkers of Mark Ruffalo. Here are all the mashup and parody videos I didn’t get a chance to cover, thrown in your face like you’re Jodie Foster working for the FBI.

In the offing for today:

  1. “What if The Avengers came out in 1978?” is a question I’ve never asked. But quarv answered it anyway with a mashup that includes 70s versions of The Avengers (love that Iron Man). Bonus points for Paul Lynde as Loki and KISS as his army. [via io9]
  2. The band Hot Problems are trying to launch their debut album, so they released this music video for “Party with My Friends” where the words are lip-dubbed to characters from the Star Wars trilogy (There were only three movies shut up shut up I can’t hear you.) [via BioTV]
  3. Titanic 2: Cruise Control. Don’t let this iceberg go under 55 mph. [via Slacktory]
  4. Do you like Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” (Why would you like that?) but think it could really use more cowbell? We’ve got you covered. [via BestWeekEver]
  5. Banner picture: “Symbiote That I Used To Know” by Hillary White (bunch more of her paintings here) [via]
  6. Inset picture: The comments at Reddit are also worth a read. We may have another Rome, Sweet Rome situation on our hands here.

New International Trailer For ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Is Rife With Lizard

04.16.12 Written by RoboPanda

Sony Pictures has released an English trailer with Japanese subtitles for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man. It includes quite a bit of footage we haven’t seen before, like more scenes with Sally Field (which was exactly what we were clamoring for) and of Rhys Ifans as Dr. Curt Conners / The Lizard. Did he just say something about “playing God”? Yes he did. That means we gotta slam a drink. Them’s the Hollywood Villain Drinking Game rules.

The new trailer is below. We know one little guy who is more excited about this movie than anything else:

Marvel Finally Gives In: “Spider-Men” Will Be a 616/Ultimate Crossover

04.12.12 Written by Dan Seitz

We all knew this was only a matter of time. Really, it’s surprising Marvel held out this long. But, hey, they at least did it for a special occasion.

“Spider-Men” is a miniseries celebrating Spidey’s 50th anniversary, and it’s not just Miles Morales and Peter Parker. They’re going to drag in damn near everybody, including Gwen Stacy (still alive in Ultimate continuity), because really, forty years of beating Peter with that guilt just isn’t quite enough, let’s twist the knife even more. And apparently the Ultimates are involved too, we’re assuming because universes crossing over is a bad thing.

If nothing else, we have this to say: the book is probably going to be funny. I may not like a lot about Bendis, but one thing I’ll cheerfully admit: dude writes a great Spidey one-liner.

Donald Glover Talks About His ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Easter Egg

04.10.12 Written by RoboPanda

The internet campaign to get Donald Glover an audition to play Spider-Man may not have worked, but Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb did drop a Donald Glover reference into the set design of Peter Parker’s bedroom. Is it going to be a Community reference? A poster for Glover’s rap alter ego Childish Gambino? An Inspector Spacetime poster? A nod to his stand-up or to Mystery Team? Since Glover had to sign off on the use of his image, MTV asked him what Easter egg we can expect to find in Spidey’s bedroom.

The video is below, but let’s get right to the pertinent information:

Glover even joked that Peter could have DVDs from 30 Rock, the show he wrote for before starring on Community. “He has all the 30 Rock DVDs, and he has my name circled on all of them. It’s like a Cape Fear thing where he’s doing pushups and stuff and it’s kind of like he’s out for me.” [MTV]

Still better than Spider-Man 3.

Spider-Man Goes Commando For These Three New Clips From ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’

04.03.12 Written by RoboPanda

What? You’ve never seen a Spider-Man freeballin’ it before?

We have three new clips from The Amazing Spider-Man which were released as a tie-in with Kellogg’s and Keebler products, where you aim a smart phone at the box and the clip plays, which makes sense because people who like Eggo f–king love Spider-Man. That’s just science.

More importantly, we’ve have a video of the film’s star Andrew Garfield on Ellen talking about the suit. They show pictures of him in the tight-fitting costume while the audience hoots (sexual harassment is awesome as long as you holla at somebody famous).

Then Garfield reveals that he couldn’t wear underwear under the Spidey suit. I’m telling you this now so you can think about it while watching the three clips below. Good luck getting that out of your head, ever. You’re welcome.

Stupid sexy Spider-Man.
