Crazy Taiwan Batman’s More Interesting Than The Dark Knight Rises

07.28.11 Written by Jon

Next Media, the Taiwanese news agency that’s animated the Superhero version of the Conan/Leno feud and Snooki drowning in a hot tub of champagne is back with their interpretation of The Dark Knight Rises trailer. And man, we do not know what’s going on in it.

From what we can tell, Wayne Manor’s foreclosed, forcing Batman to retire and become a Wal-Mart bat-greeter and get bodyslammed by a milk-drinking Bane.  Oh, then some stuff from Christopher Nolan’s films Momento and Inception happens. As for the whole Catwoman whipping Batman on a bed while Robin watches…well, that seems pretty self-explanatory.

One weird thing about the video that no one’s pointed out so far, is Batman’s Wal-Mart suit emblem. Take a look:

That sure looks like the Space Ghost’s chest emblem, doesn’t it? It’s almost like Taiwan used a CGI version of the classic Hanna-Barbara hero for their Batman…or mistakenly thought Space Ghost was just another Batman costume. Which makes as much sense as anything else in this video.

Check out the whole thing after the jump:

That Robot Seal Can Ball

03.02.11 Written by RoboPanda

Five roboticists at National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan have trained an actuated arm to play basketball.  That alone wasn’t worth a mention here until they skinned a toy seal and had the manipulator arm wear it like a Snuggie.  So creepy.  This may be a ploy by the Baby Seal Clubbers lobby (totally a real thing), because seeing that metal claw popping out of a stuffed seal’s mouth makes me want to club a seal immediately.

The roboticists say the robot seal sinks the ball 99% of the time, and we’re guessing it kills humans the other 1% of the time.  Hit the jump for the video which has earned the hoops-playing robot seal the official GammaSquad Seal of AAAAAAAAAAAA!pproval.

Taiwan Sums Up Our Feelings On “Spider-Man: Musical Fail”

12.27.10 Written by Dan Seitz

We’ve been beating up “Spider-Man: Fall Off a Set Piece” for a while now, but it’s lacked one thing that would have put the cherry on top of the vitriolic sundae: a Taiwanese CGI animation mocking the ever-loving crap out of it. Fortunately, somebody in Taiwan realized that it was Christmas and they hadn’t given comic book nerds a gift. So, with their loving Santa-like mindset, 486 computers, and low-paid wage slaves, they slapped together a little gift for all of us.

Your present is on the next page. And Happy Holidays!

What Is This I Don’t Even

“Scientifically accurate”

Quantum Quest: A Cassini Space Odyssey has been in development hell since 1996, which is also the year the animation in the trailer below seems to have come from.  It’s a $10 million (funded by NASA’s JPL) 3D animated film incorporating footage from the Cassini Huygens mission, and it’ll be screening at DragonCon tomorrow if you’re in the neighborhood and hate yourself.  I think about $9.9 million of that budget went to the voice cast, which includes Neil Armstrong, William Shatner, Chris Pine, Amanda Peet, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Hamill, Hayden Christensen as a lizard in sunglasses, James Earl Jones, Brent Spiner, and Jason Alexander.  And, at some point, the cast also included John Travolta, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Christian Slater.

Whatever money was left over after paying the constantly-revolving voice cast was spent on the ear-raping website and on hiring Taiwanese animation studio Digimax to make the gigantic mess in the trailer below.  Topless Robot is calling it “Delgo in space”.  I’m calling it “footage you would see in an ITT Tech commercial.”  They just animated a lizard wearing sunglasses!  Those are the skills I need today for the jobs of tomorrow.
