Statham and Bay Not Making “Transformers 4″?

10.21.11 Written by Dan Seitz

It’s a little weird to say, but a British metrosexual has become the world’s favorite action star. Seriously. Jason Statham spends a lot of time starring in B-level action movies, but it’s profitable and people love him for it. So we guess “Transformers” kinda makes sense, sorta.

Except not, since neither he nor Michael Bay actually want anything to do with the franchise. Well, Statham wouldn’t turn down working for Bay, since hey, it’s all explosions anyway, right? But neither of them are doing “Transformers 4.”

This doesn’t mean “Transformers 4″ isn’t going to happen: you don’t turn out three movies that make a billion dollars in theaters alone and just walk away from the franchise. Are you kidding? Hasbro’s going to beat this into the floor. It’s just they’re going to hire another director, and probably somebody cheaper than Shia LeBoeuf, at least until he stars in a few more bombs and is willing to do anything for money.

Two More Transformers Movies Could Be Coming Without Shia LaBeouf

10.18.11 Written by RoboPanda

[via]

Transformers: Pump Up The Jam Dark of the Moon earned $1.1 billion at the box office (the fourth-highest gross of all time, which is coincidentally also number four on my list of “why we can’t have nice things”), and Hasbro made $482 million in toy sales on the first movie, over $600 million on the second, and an undisclosed sum on the third. (The sum was not disclosed to me by a duck swimming in a pile of gold doubloons.) So it should be no surprise that Hasbro chief Brian Goldner says they are in “active discussions” with Paramount, Michael Bay, and Steven Spielberg about filming a fourth and fifth movie back-to-back to save money.

Shia LaBeouf has already said he doesn’t plan to return for any more movies, and he speculated Bay would also opt out of returning to make us shut up and eat our awesome. Meanwhile, Variety had some rumors of their own to report about LaBeouf’s possible replacement:

Though one name — Jason Statham — has been bandied about by sources close to the production, no offer has been made. While Bay will serve as an executive producer alongside Spielberg, sources close to the development said Bay is still interested in directing.

As is our custom, we reached out to LaBeouf for a comment:

The Steampunk Metal Sculptures of Kreatworks

09.07.11 Written by Brian Childs

In Thailand there is a group of artists called Kreatworks that are making sculptures of your favorite pop culture robots and aliens. Each large sculpture takes one artist 45-60 days to complete as is made from parts from motorcycles and cars taken from a recycling plant. So how much does a life sized version of Wall-E cost? $2800.

Ok, so maybe not everyone can buy the big sculptures, fortunately Kreatworks offers a number of small metal sculptures in the $50-100 range. Keep clicking to check out our favorites.

People Really Did Shut Up And Eat Their Awesome

07.11.11 Written by RoboPanda

Awesome.

A couple weeks ago Shia LaBeouf promised Transformers 3 was “the greatest 3-D film ever made” and we invited everyone to shut up and eat their awesome.  And, despite Bay recycling some action scenes, audiences lapped up their awesome.  As of this weekend, Transformers: Dark of the Moon has passed $261 million in domestic gross, which means it has the highest domestic gross of any movie so far this year.  In terms of worldwide gross, it’s at $558 million, which still puts it far behind Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (in first place for worldwide grosses this year in excess of $1 billion).  In other news, I spotted a dime between the seats of my car and can almost reach it.

WB and DC’s turkey Green Lantern, on the other hand, made only $3.1 million in its fourth week of release.  The total domestic gross for the movie is just over $100 million compared to the over $200 million budget.  And yet they’re still planning a sequel because selling toys is very, very profitable.

Speaking of toys, we found an amazing, exclusive .gif of the very first transformer Shia LaBeouf ever battled, and it’s not who you think.  That’s after the jump along with an alternate poster for Transformers: Dark of the Moon their marketing team didn’t use for some reason:

Humpday Mashup Dump

07.06.11 Written by RoboPanda

Good afternoon you princes of Maine, you kings of New England, you stalkers of Ewan McGregor. Here are all the mashup and parody videos I didn’t get a chance to cover, thrown in your face like you’re Jodie Foster working for the FBI.

In the offing for today:

  1. This is how Independence Day should have ended. [via TheMarySue]
  2. “Fight Shrub”, Monty Python and the Holy Grail plus Fight Club.  I probably giggled at this a little too much. [via Nerdcore]
  3. A classic episode of “The Twilight Zone” mixed with Star Wars footage.  You wouldn’t like Luke when he’s angry. [via ToplessRobot]
  4. “Lion King: Dark Of The Moon” looks much better than the Michael Bay version. [via TheHighDefinite]
