About Those Robert Pattinson as Daredevil Rumors

03.21.11 Written by RoboPanda

After it was announced last week that David Slade (director of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) would be directing the Daredevil reboot, a rumor started circulating that he and the studio (Fox) wanted Eclipse star Robert Pattinson to play Daredevil.  During an interview with MTV this weekend Pattinson himself denied he’s been offered the role or even knew of the rumor (video below), and GossipCop also reports an anonymous source involved denied the rumor as well.

If somehow this debunking is, er, debunked and this 24-year-old ends up playing a lawyer/superhero much older than himself, I can live with it. I don’t have a problem with the guy; he even seems kind of cool, saying that he tried to read a Twilight book and thought it was someone’s sexual fantasy “that wasn’t supposed to be published”. On the other hand, do you want to watch a Daredevil reboot in a theater filled with nattering, cat-hair-covered Twitards?  Let me rephrase that: do you want to watch a Daredevil reboot?

Alan Tudyk and Robin McLeavy Join ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’

03.18.11 Written by RoboPanda

Hey, remember when Australian actress Robin McLeavy was rumored to be cast in Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov’s adaptation of “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” as Lincoln’s crazy wife?  And then Mary Elizabeth Winstead was cast instead?  Now ThePlaylist reports Robin McLeavy is back but playing Lincoln’s mom.  In other news, Alan Tudyk is also joining the cast:

Tudyk, best known for his associations with Joss Whedon (including roles on “Firefly” and “Dollhouse”), will play historical figure Stephen A. Douglas. In reality, Douglas was Lincoln’s political opponent in the 1860 election and was nicknamed “The Little Giant”, standing 5’4″ but weilding tremendous political influence. In the original novel, Douglas is aligned with the vampires of the South. [ComingSoon]

Stephen A. Douglas is aligned with the vampires of the South.  I’m just going to leave that right there for posterity.

I was hoping we were already done talking about this movie because everyone’s probably sick of these casting updates by now, but then news like this breaks and I have a chance to use that picture of Alan Tudyk above.  So it’s a Wash.  *tap dances off stage while jaunty Vaudeville piano tune plays*

Neil Gaiman News To Make You Hate Twilight Even More

07.02.10 Written by RoboPanda

If anybody could usher in a badass return to form for the vampire genre, it would be Neil Gaiman.  Unfortunately, that won’t be happening any time soon.  Gaiman recently spoke to The Independent and told them he abandoned his next big novel because it had a vampire in it, and there have been too many vampires lately:

“The saddest thing is that it runs the risk of making vampires not scary. I will be glad when the glut is over. Maybe they will be scary again. I like my creatures of the night a little nocturnal,” he said. “My next big novel was going to have a vampire. Now, I’m probably not. They are everywhere, they’re like cockroaches.”
He said he hoped that mainstream culture would lose its interest in the undead so that vampire fiction could regain its potency. “Maybe it’s time for this to play out and go away. It’s good sometimes to leave the field fallow. I think some of this stuff is being over-farmed,” he said.  [Independent via SciFiWire]

Gawdammitsomuch, Twilight. We could have had a big vampire novel from Neil Gaiman.  I know he didn’t name Twilight specifically, but I’m blaming it anyway.  Vampires aren’t sparkly, abstinent vegetarians.
